We are holding an exhibition “Memory Mambo” by the resident Chia-Min HUANG.
Memory Mambo
Concept
Memory “mambos” in the river of time. Memories dance lightly. Sometimes they appear quietly on front of us, sometimes they disappear without any trace. Suddenly they reappear with another shape.
Memory is evoked in my works by signs. In this series, I use a paper boat as a sign of image-memory symbolizing a very former memory, like a childhood memory. Three videos and one installation present the development of the memory while time goes by.
Mambo in the river of time
The memory presents always the past time. When we want to recall it, we go back in time. The paper boat goes up river like the process of memory recall.
Phantom of memory
Memory is like a shifty dancer. Sometimes, we can almost feel that we remind a memory, but we fail to catch it because it passes quickly and disappears.
Ultrasound of memory
Like the medical analyse echonography, this work presents the process of memory recall, loss and deforming.
Memory strikes back
When the memory is recalled, it invades the entire brain immediately. It seems real, but it is out of reach.
